Vodafone wanted an interactive way to let people know it is abolishing roaming charges in Europe this summer. Users will be able to call, text and send pictures from over 35 countries with no additional fees.
Capitalising on the most popular form of instant messaging, Twitter, it created a dedicated website where Brits tweet from holiday spots. Ben Marsh, the man responsible for the Twitter snow map, has developed the site.
By getting its users to tweet their age, sex, first half of their UK postcode, holiday destination and information on that destination Vodafone aims to build up a comprehensive map of where Brits are holidaying abroad this year. Visitors will be able to see a rundown of the top ten most popular holiday destinations as well as read reviews of the different places. The #ukhols map was written by web developer Ben Marsh.
Vodafone hopes that by providing them with an online platform to share and review holidays, users will be encouraged to take advantage of its summertime deal. The ‘no roaming charges’ deal runs from June to August.
